Uranus

Uranus in astrology

Uranus, discovered in 1781 by William Herschel, is the planet of the unexpected. In astrology it stands for rebellion, inventions and sudden breakthroughs. It spends about seven years in each sign, so its sign is shared by your whole generation.

Uranus through the signs

Everyone born within about seven years of you shares this placement. Astrologers read it as your generation's style of rebellion and change.

Planets often dip back into the previous sign while retrograde, so the months at each edge can go either way. The birthday lookup gives your exact placement.

Uranus retrograde

Uranus is retrograde for about five months every year, a quieter time for its themes of change and freedom.

In astronomy, retrograde is an illusion: the planet only seems to move backward because Earth is passing it, or it is passing Earth, as we both orbit the Sun.

Uranus facts

How to see it: Barely visible to the naked eye under very dark skies; easy in binoculars as a pale blue-green dot.
